Holy Trinity Parish was the recent recipient of a legacy gift from the late Randy L. Durschmidt of Fort Dodge. In 2016 Mr. Durschmidt established The Randall L. Durschmidt Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT) with Holy Trinity Parish Foundation as the sole beneficiary. Upon his death in December of 2020, the Trust Funds moved to the Parish Foundation.
In keeping with Mr. Durschmidt’s wishes, the corpus or principle of the Trust will remain intact for perpetuity and the earnings will be used annually to assist the parish and the Saint Edmond Catholic School System with their annual buildings and grounds maintenance. “We are extremely grateful for a gift such as this,” said Holy Trinity Pastor Monsignor Kevin McCoy. “Randy told me of his plans a number of years ago and I was delighted when he
legally formed the trust in 2016. The importance of this gift is that it not only assists us with our buildings and grounds needs, but it allows us the opportunity to use previous income for other much needed services,” continued McCoy. “The Parish has many needs, but Randy’s generosity
may give us the opportunity to look at new programs that can benefit our parish and parishioners that we could not have considered before his gift was given” said Monsignor.
“Gifts such as this legacy donation are very important to the future of our church,” added Director of Development Tom Miklo. “This gift not only provides additional support for our current operating needs but also the opportunity to explore new areas of assistance and service for our parishioners,” continued Miklo. “The planning and forethought by Mr. Durschmidt is to be commended. If every parishioner planned for the future of our Parish in any way, large or small, the financial impact would be greatly beneficial,” concluded Miklo.
Randall L. Durschmidt was born in Fort Dodge in 1930 and was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish as well as a lifetime honorary 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
