What happens to the two old churches in Fort Dodge? My grandparents and great grandparents were married in Corpus Christi Church.
Thanks for the question! This is certainly a popular question among many people. Let’s start with Corpus Christi Church, where your grandparents and great grandparents were married.
At this time we anticipate utilizing from Corpus Christi Church some liturgical appointments (perhaps statues, stations, crucifix and altar) in the new church, its’ chapel or in other parts of the new church auxiliary buildings. Next would come what to do with the Corpus Christi Church structure itself. The brick at Corpus Christi Church is a softer brick which has allowed moisture to continually seep through to the walls. Perhaps some remember the old St. Joseph Church in Le Mars which had a similar issue. Given the structural issues of Corpus Christi Church we do not believe that it could be repurposed.
As we have been sharing, the pew ends, rosette window and a series of upper level stain glass windows from Sacred Heart Church will be incorporated in to the new church. We will also be looking for opportunities to utilize other liturgical appointments from Sacred Heart Church throughout the chapel and auxiliary buildings of the new church. We do hold out hope that Sacred Heart Church could be repurposed despite significant repairs that would need to occur.
Hopefully this answered your question. Certainly feel free to ask for clarification or other questions that may come to mind!
Blessings!
