Second Vatican Council Called for It Many people believe that the Second Vatican Council called for ending the Church’s use of the Latin language in the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. However, nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council, Sacrosanctum Concilium, explicitly called for the faithful to know the various parts of the Mass in Latin. These parts include the Gloria, the Creed, the Holy, Holy, Holy, the Memorial Acclamation, the Our Father, and the Lamb of God. In keeping with the directive of the Council, Holy Trinity Parish will be introducing some Latin chants in our common celebration of the Sacred Liturgy for the Advent and Lenten seasons. We believe that if parishioners receive these ancient melodies with an open mind, far from being a deterrent to prayer, they will actually help us enter more deeply into the mystery and sacredness of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Please join in and sing!
